Yes Men Are Revolting

A hilarious, surprising and moving film that follows the evolution of the Yes Men’s creative direct-action campaigns as they take on governments and corporations driving climate catastrophe. The film documents how Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno use political hoaxes, impersonations, and staged press conferences to expose greenwashing, fossil-fuel propaganda, and climate-policy obstruction—pushing the climate crisis into public view through humor, spectacle, and strategic disruption.

The documentary includes some of their most visible climate interventions: infiltrating energy conferences, posing as Shell executives unveiling a fake Arctic-drilling celebration, and impersonating U.S. Chamber of Commerce officials to announce fictitious climate-policy breakthroughs. Through these actions, the film shows how satire can function as nonviolent direct action, forcing major institutions to publicly respond and revealing their dishonesty to a global audience.

A major thread in the film is the Yes Men’s partnership with climate activists from Uganda leading up to COP15 in Copenhagen. This collaboration highlights the uneven global impacts of climate change and brings frontline African voices directly into the heart of the UN negotiations. The film shows how international solidarity—between artists, pranksters, and Global South organizers—can shift narratives around responsibility, justice, and urgency.

Equally important is the film’s honesty about the emotional toll of long-term activism. It follows Andy and Mike as they confront strain on relationships, fear of futility, and the challenge of sustaining commitment when the crisis outpaces the wins. Their vulnerability opens a window into the human side of organizing: the need for connection, care, and renewal.
