Whose Streets?

A raw, unflinching documentary that puts the 2014 Ferguson uprising into the hands of those who lived it. Co-directed by Sabaah Folayan and Damon Davis, the film chronicles the community response to the police killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown and the explosive protests that followed. But this is not a story told by news anchors or distant commentators—it’s told by the people on the ground: parents, artists, organizers, and young people who rose up to demand justice.

The film is essential viewing for understanding the modern Black U.S. liberation movement—not just as a response to injustice, but as a proactive, organized force. It shows how Ferguson sparked a national reckoning and helped shift public consciousness, fueling the growth of the Movement for Black Lives and campaigns to defund and rethink policing.

But the wins weren’t uncontested. Under the Trump administration, many hard-fought reforms have been rolled back, protests have been met with militarized force, and symbolic victories like Black Lives Matter Plaza dismantled. Whose Streets? reminds us that progress is possible—but fragile—and that lasting change depends on continued organizing, resistance, and care.
