Erin Brockovich

Dramatizes the true story of an unemployed single mother who, with no formal legal training, takes on one of the largest utilities in the United States. Julia Roberts portrays Erin, who stumbles upon medical records suggesting that Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) has been contaminating the water supply in Hinkley, California, with hexavalent chromium — a carcinogen causing devastating illness in the community.

Despite being dismissed at first, Erin’s persistence, sharp instincts, and ability to connect with ordinary people build the case into one of the most significant environmental lawsuits in U.S. history. The film highlights not only the courage and determination of one woman but also the resilience of a community demanding justice against corporate negligence.

Beyond courtroom drama, Erin Brockovich captures the power of grassroots organizing: knocking on doors, listening to stories, and stitching them into a collective fight that corporations can’t ignore. It also shows how empathy and humanity — qualities often undervalued in legal battles — can make or break a movement for justice.
