This series is for Latin America-based activists and campaigners. It includes regional examples and cultural considerations. The sessions will be led by members of SMT’s Latin American team and supported by colleagues from other regions. 

They are offered in Spanish with simultaneous interpretation in Portuguese and English.

1. Top Tools & Tactics to Build People Power in the Digital Age in Latin America | November 22, 2022

An overview of ways campaigners in Latin America and beyond are deploying online tools & tactics in combination with offline organizing to engage supporters, broaden their base, raise money, pressure targets, and win campaigns. We draw on lessons learned from movements and the latest online developments and social media trends. Whether you’re a complete digital novice, or advanced, make sure you aren’t missing out on key digital tools and tactics, learn what other organizers are doing to win and how to do it with limited time and money. Whether you’re an activist starting from scratch or part of a large organization, there’s something here for you.

2. Activist Pipelines to Fuel People Powered Campaigns | December 6, 2022

Your organization has a list of people who subscribed to your email updates or signed a petition; what do you ask of them next to create a powerful force to win change? Many activists and campaigners are asking:

  • How do we activate enough people? 
  • How do we transform new potential supporters into active leaders of online and offline action? 

Learn how to:

  • Invite new supporters into meaningful but doable online and offline roles to share in the work of building a powerful campaign and movement 
  • Combine the right tools and steps to make it easy for people to sign up
  • Create online spaces to help build community among your people
  • Create a support system for people to stay and thrive
  • Build personal outreach to every new supporter into your workflow

3. Action Network: A Tool for Taking Action & Managing Data in People Power Campaigns | December 13, 2022

Are you using MailChimp for email or Change.org for your petitions? If so, you need this training! Learn about a movement tool (Action Network) designed by and for activists and used in global campaigns. Use the powerful free version to send emails, launch petitions, and hold all your supporter information.

Learn about the limitations of email tools that are not action tools and why it’s essential to own and control your supporter list. 

Learn how to:

  • Use the free version to design and launch a petition
  • Send emails to petition signers and others on your list
  • Use text messaging or WhatsApp messages if more effective for some segments of your list
  • Create and send an event invite
  • Create a sign-up form or petition and embed it into your website page
  • Create a beautiful petition or event page to send people to if you don’t have a website
  • Create a campaign to send emails to a target 

Registration Cost

  • US$20 per person for the series
  • Super low group rate: $250 for up to 50 people. Must send a spreadsheet of registrants with first, last name, organization, title, and email to info@socialmovementtechnologies.org several days before the training to ensure enough time
