Bethany (she/they) brings over 15 years of experience in communications for social justice. Bethany has designed narrative-shifting strategies in support of workers’ rights, environmental justice, freedom from digital surveillance, LGBTQ+ liberation, reflective democracy, and true community safety. Their communications campaigns to stop the digital surveillance of activists and communities of color have influenced major internal policy changes at some of the largest tech companies in Silicon Valley and impacted surveillance legislation at the state and federal level. Bethany’s approach to narrative design is informed by messaging principles from the Race Class Narrative project and the Center for Story-based Strategy. Bethany is the Director of Strategic Communications at Justice Speaks.
