Aliya Sabharwal is a campaigner, online-to-offline organizer, and trainer with experience building worker-led campaigns. At United for Respect, she built and scaled the Wall Street Accountability field program using digital tools to grow a base of over 15,000 retail workers and develop a multi-employer cohort of leaders whose jobs were destroyed by Wall Street companies. Using narrative and capital strategies, as well as a communications plan centering retail workers as industry experts and activists, she helped win a $20 million employee fund for laid-off Toys ‘R’ Us workers. The campaign spurred new legislation to limit Wall Street’s influence in the industry. Aliya believes in the transformative power of storytelling and strategies rooted in the experience and expertise of the communities directly impacted by the greed of corporations and Wall Street.
